Recently, the news related to the arrest of Pavel Durov, the founder of Telegram, has become famous. Mr. Durov was placed at the disposal of the authorities because the platform has been questioned for not sharing information from the chats of certain users with the French government, this due to the fact that there are several open investigations related to organized crime.
While it is true that there are radical groups, conspiracy theorists, criminals, pedophiles, etc... that may be using this type of encrypted communication, there are also millions of people who have nothing to do with this type of activity.
With which we enter the dilemma of privacy/rights to online anonymity, for years there have been attempts to violate online privacy, for example: France approves a law that allows mass surveillance on the Internet without a court order.
I think we all have the right to anonymity online as well as in our private lives. The fact that this right is being restricted leaves us with a lot to think about regarding our governments. I have often heard the comment "I don't care if they know everything I do online, I have nothing to hide." This opinion I respect but do not share, since we all have the right to our privacy. This does not mean that I am hiding anything or that I am a member of radical groups. It means that it is private information that is my property and that I do not want anyone to see. It could be compared to sharing your personal diary with the government because they simply do not know that you are writing in it.
Sadly, I see how our rights (often constitutional) are diminishing over time, especially because there is less opposition to this type of imposition, whether due to ignorance, lack of knowledge or lack of involvement.
I am leaving some links to encrypted messaging applications in case you are curious.
